Kobe Bryant and LeBron James stole the show in this game. It was a great effort from Patty Mills and Team Australia, but Team USA wore them down with their strength, athletic ability and tenacious defense.
Kobe in some ways came to life in this game. He has had some moments so far, but has been failry quiet, until now. The Black Mamba didn’t score at all in the first half, but turned it on in the second, scoring 20 points. The turning point of the game was when Kobe scored three triples in a row, which put the dagger in Australia’s heart. Kobe shot 6-14. All 6 made field goals came from deep. I never doubted him for one second. He’s the old man on the block, he knows when he is needed, and if Team USA wants to win gold, they will need Kobe to be there in the toughest of moments.
LeBron James had a historic night in Olympic history. He racked up the first ever triple-double in Olympic basketball. He was all over the floor doing whatever the team needed. He scored 11 points, dished out 12 assists and grabbed 14 rebounds. Say what you want about LeBron, but he’s now a NBA Champion, already a Gold Medalist and it looks like he will cement his place as one of the greatest Olympic basketball players of all time.
Kevin Love got a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes. When Tyson Chandler gets in foul trouble the US suffers a bit defensively, but gains a lot more offense with guys like Carmelo and Love taking his place. I personally think Love is the best rebounder on this team, and because of that i think he should get more consistent playing time.
Team USA has advance to the semifinals and will face Argentina once again. There is a lot of bad blood between the two teams from the last time they played, where Argentina showed no class. Kobe said that he is “livid” about playing Argentina once again. Hopefully this rubs off on the other players and they take it to their opponents.
