The Houston Rockets took full advantage of the worn out New Orleans Hornets who played just last night against the Charlotte Bobcats. The Rockets as a whole were a step faster in every aspect of the game. Taking advantage of New Orleans on fastbreaks and forcing 18 turnovers. The Hornets shot just 33% from the field while the Rockets shot 50%.
You may have missed it, but Royce White was with the team tonight. The only problem was he got no playing time. Coach Kevin McHale feels White isn’t ready to play just yet and needs to continue working on his conditioning.
Omer Asik was the player of the game with 6 points, 15 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals in 28 minutes. Anthony Davis didn’t play due to an injury, but that doesn’t take away the fact that Asik dominated the paint throughout the game. Chandler Parsons joked that Asik “is getting all of my rebounds.”
Kevin Martin had another stellar night, putting up 17 points on 6-11 shooting, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Martin just looks happy again, very confident when he’s on the floor. If he keeps this up he will have another great season in his career. I’m just not sure if he will finish it in Houston.
In his first game in Houston, Jeremy Lin went semi-Linsane in his debut for the Houston fans. In 23 minutes he scored 9 points, dished out 7 assists and stole the rock twice. Ok, maybe he didn’t go Linsane, but it was much improved from his last game against the Thunder.
Donatas Motiejunas showed what he’s capable of doing tonight scoring 13 points, but grabbed only 2 rebounds. We know he can score. He needs to work on pretty much everything else.
Terrence Jones didn’t nearly play up to what he did against the Thunder just a couple of night ago, but he’s very young. I expect for this to happen throughout the season. He’s showed consistency in college and in the summer league. Hopefully he can do it in the big leagues.
Scott Machado only got 5 minutes of playing time. But in those 5 minutes he dished out 5 assists. This kid has a lot of potential and you can see why the Rockets want to keep him around.
Toney Douglas has shown what he can do in the first two games. Tonight he scored 11 points and dished out 2 assists in 18 minutes.
Yes, the Hornets were obviously tired going into a back-to-back, but it doesn’t take away the fact that the Rockets have been very impressive so far. It’s obvious this team will be very fun to watch this season.
