The Houston Rockets got their man. Reigning Sixth Man of the Year, James Harden, was traded to the Rockets Saturday night as part of a blockbuster trade. The Oklahoma City Thunder will receive Kevin Martin, rookie Jeremy Lamb, and two future first round draft picks.
This changes everything for Houston. They were able to get a guy in Harden that can do pretty much everything on the court. He can shoot, he can penetrate a defense and finish at the rim, he can find the open man, and he is also quite exceptional on the defensive end.
Now when somebody says the Rockets are going to make the playoffs, they might actually have a point. With Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Patterson, and Omer Asik already on board, Harden will be able to come right in and fit perfectly into the shooting guard position for the Rockets. He will be the go-to-guy and the face of the franchise, or dare I say the beard of the franchise. There’s no doubt in my mind that Harden will be representing the Rockets in Houston at the 2013 All-Star game.
Depending how the season fairs for the Rockets, Harden could also be in the talks for MVP when it’s all said and done. It’s too early to make bold predictions like that but if the Rockets could put together an impressive season then Harden would have to be in the discussion.
They are still a long ways away from a championship but they are a lot closer to one now than they were two days ago.
