ESPN has decided to add two Houston Rockets games to their NBA broadcasts this season. ESPN will air the Rockets match-up against the Boston Celtics on Friday, December 14th from the Toyota Center, as well as the January 16th game against the Dallas Mavericks. This adds to the two ESPN broadcasts originally scheduled by ESPN in the off-season, a Christmas match-up with the Chicago Bulls, and a March 8th game against the Golden State Warriors.
NBA’s other cable carrier, TNT, did not schedule to air any Rockets games in the off-season, and have made no plans to do so thus far. TNT will however, televise the NBA All-Star Weekend from Houston starting with the NBA All Star Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, February 15th, All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, and the All-Star Game itself on February 17th.
With the Rockets currently at 6-7, led by their young, talented core, the national media has realized that this team can be a legitimate contender for the playoffs this season. If the Rockets continue to play well and stay close to the 8th playoff spot in the West, look for Houston to play even more nationally televised games later on this season.
