In case you missed it Saturday night, Kevin McHale returned to the Houston Rockets bench as the head coach. It was a very bittersweet moment for him after losing his daughter just a couple weeks ago. It was a very emotional time for him, his family and the Rockets organization.
Kelvin Sampson did a great job filling in for McHale while he was gone for basically an entire month. Houston went 7-6 under Sampson, which is really good for such a young team and for a guy who was thrown in to replace McHale unexpectedly.
The biggest problem facing McHale as he comes back is not getting comfortable with his job and team again since he looked more than happy to be back, it’s what to do with Jeremy Lin. Linsanity is long gone and as of now most people don’t think it’s coming back. Fans are losing interest in him and the coaches have started benching him in favor of Toney Douglas in the 4th quarter. Lin has struggled with pretty much everything so far, but he’s especially struggling with his shooting. McHale needs to somehow motivate him while also telling him he needs to pick it up before he’s replaced in the starting lineup.
The Houston Rockets are standing at 9-10 so far this season and will look for revenge against the San Antonio Spurs tonight. The Spurs blew out the Rockets just three days ago.
