NBA Trade Rumors: Memphis Grizzlies May Trade Zach Randolph To Houston Rockets

According to reports the Memphis Grizzlies may keep star guard Rudy Gay and instead trade Zach Randolph to the Houston Rockets.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com has stated that the Rockets “love” Zach.

Randolph has been a boarder-line All-Star this season and may even make the team. He has helped the Grizzlies to a 26-13 record and 4th in the Western Conference. So far this season he is averaging a double-double with 16.3 points on 48% shooting and 11.8 rebounds a game.

The Grizzlies look to want to get younger while also staying at the top of the west. The Rockets could offer any of the 4 power forwards, a backup guard and picks.

Randolph has been in the league for 11 seasons but is still just 31 years old. This will give them the post presence they have been searching for since going after Pau Gasol. He will also give the Rockets veteran leadership that they desperately need. Z-Bo is not afraid to speak up. He went through his ups and downs early in his career but he is definitely one of the better leaders in the league today.

Randolph would help Omer Asik greatly. Randolph plays great on both sides of the floor but is more known for his offensive abilities. Asik would then be able to focus more on his defense which is why he was brought here in the first place.

It’s no secret that the Rockets need major help at power forward. Randolph is significantly better than any of the Rockets power forwards so they will most likely have to give up Terrence Jones or Donatas Motiejunas to make this trade work. Both guys are rookies and have a lot of potential.

Randolph isn’t a long-term solution but he will be a valuable piece for the Rockets at least for 2-3 years. I think it’s safe to say that no matter what the Rockets are going to land an upgrade at power forward before the trade deadline in February.
