Houston Rockets Blow Out Dallas Mavericks 136-103

It looked like the Houston Rockets were in for another struggle against their division rivals yet again, but an explosive third quarter changed all that.  The Rockets outscored Dallas 44-17 in the third, including a 15-0 run to start the second half, which easily put the game out of reach.

Chandler Parsons scored a career high 32 points, shooting 12-13 from the field including 6-7 from beyond the arc.  Parsons was a perfect 11-11 when he missed a three-pointer with three minutes left in the third quarter.  His 12-13 shooting nearly tied a franchise record held by Yao Ming who shot 12-12 in 2009 against the Miami Heat.

Jeremy Lin and James Harden both added 21 points, and Lin dished out 9 assists.  The Rockets trailed 50-41 midway through the second quarter when Lin and Parsons led Houston on a 14-4 run.  Thomas Robinson played his best game since being acquired, scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, while Francisco Garcia contributed in his Rockets debut, playing 18 minutes and scoring 8 points, including knocking down two three-pointers.

The Mavericks were led by O.J. Mayo, who had 18 points, and Shawn Marion, who added 14 points, while Dirk Nowitzki was held to just 8 points.  Dallas is now six games behind the Rockets for the 8th seed in the west.

It was a great sign for the Rockets, as they had blown 17-point leads in their 2 previous losses, at Washington, and against Milwaukee.

“In the past few games, we have built leads and given them up,” Lin said, “so it was good to see us just really build on that.”

The Rockets will turn around on Wednesday and play the Mavericks again, in Dallas.
