Dwight Howard Set to Host Camp This Weekend in Houston

Rockets center Dwight Howard will be hosting a camp for kids in grades 1st through 12th this Saturday, September 19th. The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the MI3 Center in Houston.

The CampJust like the James Harden Camp in The Woodlands, Howard’s camp will also be ran by Pro Camps who have continuously put kids in the right place to help them succeed. Howard will be present, helping with drills, talking with the campers and signing autographs.

Other Houston area coaches, players and friends of Howard’s will be volunteering to help with the campers and will even get in on the fun once the drills and games start. A motivational speech and plenty of dancing is undoubtedly expected.

According to the Pro Camps site, the camp is full and a waiting list has even been set up for those who got to the site a little late. The camp will be $99 for most campers, $79 with the Citi Preferred Offer. The camp will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and will last three hours until noon.

Campers will be in groups to do drills and play a few exhibition games, before taking team pictures with ‘Superman’ himself. They are also put into groups so that every kid has a chance to get the maximum amount of 1-on-1 help they can get from trainers and coaches. All campers will also receive a signed poster or player card and a limited edition Dwight Howard camp t-shirt.

Excited for my annual youth basketball camp this fall! Who thinks they can take me 1-on-1? #SWAT @ProCamps @Academy https://t.co/pX6JIgmLlX

The LocationThe camp will take place at the MI3 Center which is a multi-purpose facility that has everything from fitness to religious services to an academy during the school year.

The Center is located on the North side of Houston off Ella Blvd. and FM 1960. It is a popular place for BINGO, sports events, birthday parties and everything in between which is why it is the perfect place for Dwight Howard to hold his camp at the Center.

Outside of CampBesides for the basketball season which is quickly approaching, Howard also has his D12 Foundation as well as the Breathe Again Foundation. Breathe Again helps kids think twice before making harsh or irrational decisions and D12 Foundation is the charity Howard has set up to help kids in Houston, his hometown of Atlanta and plenty of other places around the world.

Howard gets a very unfavorable representation by some of his former teammates and the media, but if you live in Houston or Atlanta and can see the daily impact he has on these cities, most people would think again before they say something negative about him.

Dwight Howard’s camp is poised to be another extremely successful event for the Houston Rockets and the City of Houston. We hope you can make it out to the camp and if you do, let us know how you liked it down below in the comments section or on Twitter at @SpaceCity_Scoop.
