After two season with the Houston Rockets, veteran guard Jason Terry has been informed he won’t be re-signed.

Jason Terry has long been considered the veteran voice in the Houston Rockets locker room. Last season James Harden made an impassioned plea with Terry to get him to return to H-Town.

At the time Terry felt the team had the makings to return back to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately those plans went awry this season specifically with regards to the chemistry of the team arguably due to the tensions between Harden and Dwight Howard.

The Jet has often been cited as the voice of reason, but even his leadership failed to convince the two stars to set aside their issues.

Cut to present and Howard gone along with Terrence Jones who also fell from grace within the organization.

New free agent additions Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon are said to be excellent locker room guys, so they’ll help pick up the loss of Terry’s departure.

Terry is 38 and has 17 years in the Association. As per Terry’s appearance on Sirius XM’s NBA Today show this week he feels he still has a few good seasons left in him.

Terry appeared in 72 of 82 regular season games this season scoring 5.9 points, with 1.4 assists, 1.1 rebounds and shot 40.2% from the field.

As per Eddie Sefko article in the Dallas Morning News, the Mavericks are a potential landing spot. Further Terry said: :

“Just looking for another opportunity to get back on a contender. But if that opportunity doesn’t present itself, still being able to go in and have an impact in the locker room on the younger players and provide quality minutes off the bench.”

Wherever Terry ends up he’ll be a player who Rockets fans have fond memories of for his leadership and off court quotes.  Ideally, he gets a shot at a contender, but his presence on a team with youngsters needing direction would also work.
