Houston Rockets Recap: Rockets Fall to Warriors Despite Harden’s Triple-Double

Despite James Harden’s 20th triple-double of the season, the Golden State Warriors proved to be too much for the Houston Rockets.

Following one of their most impressive wins of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Houston Rockets’ four-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors at the Toyota Center.

What had potential to become one of the biggest games of the season quickly became a Golden State show.

With their defense solely focused on James Harden, the Warriors scored 37 points during the first period, and never trailed in route to their sixth straight victory on the Rockets’ floor.

Golden Sate watched their led increased by 22 points at one point in the second quarter. However, thanks to the offense played by Clint Capela and Eric Gordon, Houston cut their large deficit down to eight, with the Warriors leading 60-52 at the half.

With Draymond Green missing a majority of the second half with a tweaked ankle, the Rockets went on a little run. Houston cut Golden State’s lead down to four, following Patrick Beverley‘s steal on Stephen Curry for an easy two.

Unfortunately for the Rockets, the two-time MVP woke up in the second half. After shooting 1-for-8 from three in the first half, Curry finished with 32 points to help his Warriors continue their dominance over the Rockets.

With Curry leading the way and the lack of defense played by the Houston Rockets, Golden State held on for their 60th win of the season. It also marked their 10th win out of the last 12 games against the Rockets.

In the loss, James Harden recorded his 20th triple-double of the season with 24 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds. In addition to Harden, it was a tough night overall for Houston as a team.

Despite six players scoring in double figures, Houston ended the game shooting 5-of-31 from 3-point land.

Alongside Curry’s 32 points, his backcourt mate Klay Thompson added 25 points of his own. He was on fire and shot 50 percent from the field on the night.

Following the loss, the Rockets will head out west for a brief three-game road trip. Their first matchup will be on Thursday against the relentless Portland Trail Blazers.
