Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE
Just a couple weeks after being sent down to the D-League the Houston Rockets have recalled big man Donatas Motiejunas and point guard Scott Machado. One name not being mentioned, who was also sent down at the same time is Royce White, who is still missing in action.
D-Mo started two games for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he averaged 24 points and 9.5 rebounds a game. Marcus Morris gave Motiejunas advice and encouragement, saying “he will be the man down there.” Morris was right, and after just two games D-Mo is back to add depth and will look for an opportunity to crack the rotation.
Scott Machado has also lit up the D-League with his play. In two games, Machado has averaged 16 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 steal in 34 minutes a game. In his first game he did have 7 turnovers but he trimmed it to just 3 in his next game. Toney Douglas hasn’t done much to solidify the backup point guard spot. I expect Machado to definitely get a legitimate shot at taking over his spot sooner rather than later.
The Houston Rockets are 6-7 and are looking for more help off the bench. All it takes is for a player to struggle or become injured for Machado and D-Mo to get a shot.
