Today it has been reported that head coach Kevin McHale of the Houston Rockets has decided to start rookie power forward Donatas Motiejunas. This may be shocking to some, but not to me.
Coach McHale struggles to trust any rookie. At the power forward spot he doesn’t have much of choice but to start a first-year player. His choices are Terrence Jones, Motiejunas and Thomas Robinson. He hasn’t shown much trust in Jones even after he impressed us. Thomas Robinson has yet to play a game for the Rockets and Motiejunas has impressed in his last two games.
Motiejunas doesn’t have much experience overall, but he has the most experience out of the three power forwards on the roster with the Rockets.
With all this being said I do think he is also the most skilled out of the three. He can stretch the floor and has showed he’s been working a lot on his post game. He still needs to gain weight and strength but that will come in time.
This will be his first start of his career. Let’s hope he has what it takes to keep this job.
