Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Preview

Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

This is the type of game that should be an easy win for the Houston Rockets. The Minnesota Timberwolves have a ton of injuries and most of them are crucial pieces to their core. With that being said, the Rockets always seem to have a tough time putting away the lesser competition.

Houston needs to come out to an early lead and never let up. Treat this game as if it’s the last game of the season. Kobe Bryant looks to be out indefinitely for the Los Angeles Lakers which can only help Houston stay in front of the struggling Lakers. But do not assume you are going to, go out and take it and never let go.

The Timberwolves two main players for right now are Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic. Rubio is not much of a scorer but he shreds defenses with his playmaking abilities. I want to see Jeremy Lin fight through screens and close off passing lanes to disrupt Rubio’s style of play. Omer Asik is a defensive beast and if he plays like he has all season this should definitely be an easy win as Pekovic is their leading scorer with Kevin Love being injured.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see James Harden go for 40 points with the smaller Luke Ridnour guarding him.

Chandler Parsons shouldn’t have no problem having a big night either. This should only help continue his recent hot streak.

The Rockets backcourt needs to play with some intensity on defense. The Wolves have a ton of fire power back there and if they get hot it could be a long night. Guys like Lin, Harden, Patrick Beverley and Francisco Garcia need to put a lot of pressure on them and force bad shots. If they turn the Wolves into a jump shooting team this game will end in a blowout win for the Rockets.
