After leaving the Rio Grande Valley Vipers last week without permission, Royce White will return to the team, and is expected to be in uniform Tuesday night when the Vipers take on the Tulsa 66ers.
White announced last week that a team doctor told him that it would be healthier for him to leave the Vipers in order to prepare for next season, but no permission from the organization was ever granted to White. Had White continued to stay away from the Houston Rocket’s D-League team, he would have been at risk of earning a second suspension without pay this season.
In 12 games that White has played with the Vipers, he has averaged 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. In addition to his anxiety disorder problems, his weight can become an issue as well down the road. It’s been reported that he has gained around 40 pounds and has blown up to around 300 pounds.
I have been fairly patient and sympathetic for White throughout the season, but I think it’s about time that the Rockets look to cut ties with him. It seems as if he’s more concerned with trying to play in the NBA on his terms, and in his way, rather than trying to fit in into the organization.
