Chicago Bulls 93 Miami Heat 86
How Chicago Won: This is a Bulls team that has been decimated by injuries all season long, and they still feel like a team that doesn’t get affected no matter who is hurt. The Bulls played without Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng Monday night in game 1 and were able to hold the Heat to just 40 percent shooting from the field and 29 percent from behind the arc.
Nate Robinson came up big down the stretch, scoring 11 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Butler played a good game as well, finishing with 21 points and 14 rebounds while Joakim Noah scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
How Miami Lost: Aside from Lebron James (24 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and Dwayne Wade (14 points), the rest of the Heat combined to go just 16 for 45 from the field. Chris Bosh shot just 3 for 10 and only grabbed 6 rebounds against the likes of Noah, Carlos Boozer, and Taj Gibson.
The Heat lost the rebounding battle 46-32, and let the Bulls close the game out on a 10-0 run. The Heat missed all five of their shot attempts in the final two minutes of the game and Ray Allen got burned defensively on a couple of possessions down the stretch. Other than James and Wade, no other Heat player scored in double digits.
It was over when: Trailing 86-83 with over two minutes left in the game, the Bulls went on a 10-0 run to close the game out.
Quote Of The Night: “I think when you’re facing adversity, you have to be mentally tough. But this is just one game. We have to play a lot better in our next one.”
– Tom Thibodeau
