Chandler Parsons is making the news a lot lately. From his everyday conversations with Dwight Howard to his interviews about acquiring the free agent big man to even his tweets it seems like the world can’t get enough of him. Even Stephen A. Smith came around to admitting he has got some skills. What hasn’t got as much press is that the 6’9 rising star has been invited to the USA Select Team trials and it might prove to be just the spark he needs to realize his full potential.
If you look at all of the careers of all of the current superstars in the league they all have one thing in common and that is playing with the best competition in the world in the offseason. There is no substitute for pushing yourself to the limits and learning from the people who have been where you want to be. Take for example the growth Kyrie Irving showed after his last stint. Rudy Gay also put the world on notice after his time with the select team. I am saying all of this to get people excited about what we could and probably will see out of Parsons this coming season. Parsons has improved in both of his seasons as a pro and had similar results in college. He is a gym rat that works on his craft every chance he gets which is apparent by his improved three point and field goal percentages. Learning how to know when to assert himself in a game and not become passive at times is what he should be focusing on picking up from this group of players.
Once Chandler learns just how good he is the rockets will be as scary as any Lebron lead team could ever hope to be. He has the size, determination, skill, and work ethic, all that is left is confidence and experience both of which he should gain in vast numbers this summer. Congrats to him and the Rockets because it looks like they will be ready to take flight come next season.
