Today in downtown Houston, in front of the Toyota Center, over 10,000 fans stood in 102 degree heat to get the first look at new Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard. The heat was only made worse by the number of people, and the lack of shade. But the moment Dwight walked on to the stage the weather was forgotten and fans exulted. Couldn’t help but wonder how Dwight was able to wear a suit on stage, but he didn’t stay outside for too long.

Special thank you to 10,000 or so fans that showed up to the rally in the Houston heat (even our tarp over the graphic melted at the top!)

The Rockets sparred no expense, in the marketing, and set-up for the press conference and fan rally. Also clever how the Rockets used “H”-Town as a new marketing slogan, based on not only Dwight Howard, but also James Harden.

“Dwight is the biggest free agent acquisition in the history of the Rockets,” said Alexander. “His addition puts us in contention. This is good for the city and especially the fans. Fans are going to have a great time this year. This team will be tremendous fun to watch.”

The Rockets rally also featured games where you could win prizes, and ultimately a festival-type atmosphere.

“I’m just very excited to here. Leslie and everyone at the Rockets have been great to me so far,” said Howard. “This is very special. Words really can’t explain how I feel about being here. It is a fresh start, a clean slate. I am looking forward to doing it in Houston with these beautiful fans behind me. I think it is going to be great. I am looking forward to embracing this city and giving them everything I got.”
