Trade 1:

Houston gives: Omer Asik
Dallas gives: Shawn Marion

Dallas is going to start Samuel Dalembert at center this year, and while that could very well work out, Dally is not a 38 minute a night kind of guy, and Dallas lacks depth at the 5-spot with just Fab Melo (who may never pan out) and DeJuan Blair (who is way too undersized to cover a lot of centers). Marion is on his way down, much like Dalembert, but the Matrix still would be a very valuable chip in Houston. He would provide veteran leadership and what remains of his athleticism; and say what you may about his unorthodox shooting form, he can still knock down some treys (31.5 percent last season).

Marion is an expiring contract, as well, which means that if he didn’t work out in Houston, the Rockets could just go back to developing Donatas Motiejunas and Terrence Jones.

Once upon a time when Marion played power forward for the Phoenix Suns, he recorded the best seasons of his career. While he’s not the same player that he once was, his skill set as a 4-man in an up-tempo offense would fit in nicely.
