Just when the injuries didn’t seem like it could be any worse for the Houston Rockets, another key piece goes down. The Rockets officially announced that Omer Asik will be out at least one week with a right thigh contusion Wednesday morning. Rockets.com insider Jason Friedman first reported the news.

Asik had been giving the Rockets very productive minutes in his new role as the backup center to Dwight Howard since returning to the team a couple of weeks ago. In the past 7 games, Asik is averaging 4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 15 minutes.
Jeremy Lin is still out with a knee sprain, Chandler Parsons is currently listed as day-to-day with back spasms, and reserve center Greg Smith continues to recover from suffering a knee injury against the New York Knicks on Nov. 14. Donatas Motiejunas will slide in as the backup center as the Rockets take on the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night.
