Houston Rockets: Isaiah Canaan Gets Called Up

With the Houston Rockets extremely inundated with injuries, the team has called up Isaiah Canaan from the development league affiliate Rio Grand Valley Vipers. On Saturday night the Rockets added Patrick Beverley to the injury reserve list, due to Beverley breaking his right hand in the second quarter against the Pistons. Houston has numerous players on the IR, including Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Greg Smith, and James Harden sat out the Detroit Pistons game due to an injured ankle.
Lucky for Houston, the bench depth was established during the offseason and was effective enough that players flow right into the rotation, such as Francisco Garcia starting, or extra minutes for Omri Casspi. Rookie Isaiah Canaan felt the sting of the depth of the Rockets, to the point where his only, and best option was to be assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
A couple weeks ago I mentioned that it was time to call up Canaan due to the lost of Jeremy Lin to injury. Now that Beverley will be out for at least 3-4 weeks Canaan now has a chance to show that he is capable of playing in the NBA. Canaan is currently averaging 21.7 points, and 9.2 dimes in the 12 games he has played.
Here is Canaan talking about his time with the RGV Vipers:
