Back when the Houston Rockets targeted Dec. 19 as the deadline to deal center Omer Asik, the Boston Celtics showed the most interest, with one of the possible players in return being Jeff Green. According to Boston’s NESN, the Celtics are once again interested in the backup center. From House of Houston’s Yoni Pollak:
“The Boston Celtics have reemerged as a suitor for Omer Asik according the NESN. The Celtics are looking to trade Jeff Green and the Rockets were rumored to be in pursuit of a stretch- power forward a month ago. The Rockets needs have likely changed a bit with the strong play of Terrence Jones. Green would fit nicely in Houston, but he is signed through the 2015 season with a 2016 player option, and that is not something Daryl Morey would likely target in an Asik trade.”
There’s also the possibility that the Celtics could send Rajon Rondo instead of Green, although fairly unlikely at this point. The Rockets would have to include Jeremy Lin, in addition to Asik, as well as at least a first round pick. Rondo has been rumored to be shopped around by the Celtics, with a western conference team being the preferable destination.
Whatever the case may be, get ready for a crazy month of trade rumors as the Feb. 20 deadline approaches.
