A day after the Houston Rockets’ 99-98 heartbreaking loss in Game 6 against the Portland Trail Blazers, general manager Daryl Morey stated that head coach Kevin McHale will return next season.
According to CSN Houston, McHale will remain at the helm as the Rockets go into the 2014-2015 season, and is also scheduled to meet with Morey and owner Les Alexander this week:
“A source has confirmed to CSN two previously published reports about Kevin McHale.
First, that the Hall of Famer will indeed return as the Rockets head coach for the fourth and final season of his contract.
And secondly, that McHale will meet with general manager Daryl Morey and owner Leslie Alexander in Florida on Wednesday to discuss the past, present and future of the team, which disappointingly bowed out in the first round of the NBA playoffs.”
McHale led the Rockets to 54 wins, the most in his 3-year tenure, but a first-round playoff loss put a damper on what was an excellent regular season.
