While it had been agreed in principle weeks go, the trade between the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings has finally become official.

Rockets receive: Jason Terry, protected second round pick in 2015 (Sacramento’s) and a 2016 unprotected second rounder from the New York Knicsk

Kings receive: Alonzo Gee, Scotty Hopson

Jason Terry was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Sacramento Kings, but he had the worst season of his NBA career. The Rockets are hoping Terry revives himself to his former sixth man glory. The Rockets sorely need it, with so many unproven talents in the backcourt (see: Troy Daniels, Nick Johnson, Isaiah Canaan). Terry will bring some veteran leadership to the second unit, and that’s the main purpose in acquiring the veteran.

As for Alonzo Gee, he was buried on the depth chart. Scotty Hopson may not make it past training camp. And then the picks, albeit second rounders, make this trade a no brainer. Sacramento had no use for Terry as it tries to develop Ben McLemore. Terry is an aged veteran, but he’s best off on a team that can contend. Now he is.

Welcome to the Space City, Jason Terry.
