Las Vegas has a way of seldom being wrong. This applies most especially to “Futures” betting, the likes of which includes the chances each team has at an NBA title.
According to a Vegas oddsmaker, the breakdown is as follows:
Cleveland Cavaliers 5/2
San Antonio Spurs 4/1
Chicago Bulls 11/2
Oklahoma City Thunder 6/1
Los Angeles Clippers 12/1
Houston Rockets 16/1
Dallas Mavericks 18/1
Golden State Warriors 22/1
While 16/1 odds are a far cry from the 2.5/1 odds of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Vegas indicates that the Rockets are very much in the hunt. It’s hard to dispute that any of the teams ahead of the Rockets don’t belong there.

And the Bulls, prior to Derrick Rose’s injury, were knocking on the door.
It is strange to see OKC behind the Bulls, but other than that, it all seems pretty logical. The L.A. Clippers’ title chances are significantly enough ahead of Houston’s so as to warrant the 25% difference. The Rockets belong ahead of the aged Mavericks. Meanwhile, the Warriors may be the best “value bet;” or in other words, a team whose title chances are greater than the odds against its chances.
Either way, expect the top-4 teams to be in the Finals in some combination, as futures betting is one of least variant of any types. This will, according to Vegas oddsmakers, render the Rockets on the outside looking in.
