Today social media will be abuzz as teams line up to partake in the Josh Smith sweepstakes. The recently released Piston may be considered a malcontent by Piston Coach and President of Basketball Operations: Stan Van Gundy, however Smith could make a big difference to a contending team.
Smith will clear waivers at 5:00 P.M. today which is when teams could technically announce his signing. The teams anticipated to be pursuing the power forward are:
- Houston Rockets
- Dallas Mavericks
- Los Angeles Clippers
- Sacramento Kings
- Miami Heat
Each team has a solid shot of making the post season, but Smith may have a penchant to join one of two teams based on his connection with current stars on them. As previously reported Dwight Howard was Josh Smith’s best man and Rajon Rondo also has a strong relationship with Smith. All three played their high school ball in Atlanta. Smith and Howard were teammates on the Atlanta Celtics AAU team, but Smith transferred to Oak Hill his senior year where he played alongside Rondo.
