Since acquiring Corey Brewer, Alexey Shved and Josh Smith Rocket fans have experienced 2 big wins over Western power teams Portland and Memphis and lost a closely contested game versus San Antonio last night.

Yet the price to add these upgrades was the loss of promising rookie Tarik Black who Houston originally picked up after he went undrafted when he showed promise in the summer at camps and tournaments. He arrived with an NBA ready body and quickly took to the system coach Kevin McHale runs in Houston. Black spent his last college season in Kansas where he played alongside rookie sensation Andrew Wiggins and injured rookie Joel Embiid.

The 6’11” center started 12 games for the Rockets while Dwight Howard was out injured, registering 4.2 points per game, 5.1 rebounds and shot 54.2% from the field.

Los Angeles released Xavier Henry who had moments of brilliance for the Lakers in his brief stint prior to tearing his left Achilles tendon.  The Lakers are in desperate need of assistance upfront especially with their own highly tauted rookie Julius Randle out for the season after breaking his leg in his first game.

Coach Byron Scott was enthusiastic about the addition of Black citing his size, toughness and defense as benefits the Lakers are eager to utilize. Black should arrive in L.A. sometime today and after passing a physical may see activity as early as Tuesday.

Rocket fans wish him well with his new team.
