The awards continue to roll in for James Harden who was previously cited with two Western Conference Player of the week honors this season. Harden won the weekly honor for the weeks of December 8-14 and December 22-28.
News came to start this week that Harden had been named the Western Conference Player of the Month for December. Toronto Raptor point guard Kyle Lowry joined him as the East’s recipient.
Although both players have previously received Player of the Week honors this is the first time either have received Player of the Month honors.

Both players share a common bond beyond their obvious early season accomplishments in that they led their teams to winning records in December despite playing without their significant other. Harden carried the Rockets to a 8-3 record in Dwight Howard’s absence who missed games due to a sore knee .
Lowry for his part took over sole captaincy of the Raptors after All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan went down with a pulled abductor muscle November 28. Lowry led the Raptors to a 11-7 record while DeRozan missed 18 games. DeRozan is rumored to be ready to return to action this coming Thursday.
For the games played in December Harden led the league in scoring with 30.6 points per game. He also averaged 30.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.9 steals and nearly a block per game. Besides leading all players in scoring he also ranked llth in assists and ninth in steals.
The Rockets record during this period was 9-5. Harden was on a scoring terror during this period registering three 40-point games and eight 30-point games. Also the bearded one set new personal highs in this month when he dished out 14 assists (versus Atlanta December 20th) and hit eight 3-pointers in one game (versus Charlotte, December 31st).
Although Harden had many great individual performances this month arguably his best came versus the Portland Trailblazers on December 22nd. In just 32 minutes he scored 44 points, had 7 assists and 5 steals leading to a 110-95 victory.
