NBA Power Rank Weeks 15-16: Contenders Begin Stretch Run:

I won’t lie, I’m downright giddy over the fact I’ve been calling out the pretenders (read: Clippers and Suns) for weeks when I refused to add them to my top 10 unlike the National pundits! HA! And, can I just say I’ve also been saying San Antonio would ascend and Oklahoma City would not only make the playoffs but potentially move up beyond the 8th seed.

Remember I said the top teams would just want to get out of this past week and a half prior to the break without plummeting in rank or suffering any major injuries.

Well pretty much all the contenders accomplished that while a few experienced some bad news and perhaps in a coincidental twist the biggest pretender just lost their ace in the hole for 3 weeks due to a staph infection.

Um, the thing is, if the Clippers actually don’t fall down to the 8th seed prior to his return doesn’t that speak to the fact maybe Blake Griffin is the problem in the first place?

Guess we’ll check back here in 2 weeks and see. In the interim you can bet you won’t find them in my top 10 anytime soon. Hey, I refused when they were healthy and performing so why they heck would I do it now when they are finally showcasing what I’ve been pointing out all season!

I won’t be holding back any punches this week as I’m feeling pretty confident on who is ready to ascend the ladder, who will claw and bite just to hang on and the two or three teams who’ll be dropping faster than a paratrooper whose parachute won’t open.

Of note, I chose to hold off posting my top 10 last week since most teams only had 2 games prior to the All-Star break so you’re getting a double dose today featuring the National ranking for the past 2 weeks. It offers an opportunity for you to see how the Rockets rank (or your favorite team) over the past 2 weeks by the major media. Plus as per usual I’ll follow their rankings with my own two cents.
