Steve Nash Retires: The gifted point guard’s tweet is met with an out pouring of respect from players, teams, fans and even the Prime Minister of Canada!

The Philanthropist:

Like most things Steve Nash does even his retirement appears to be tied to a cause greater than himself. I remember thinking Saturday as news spread via his simple tweet – hey isn’t next week “Green Week” in the NBA?

For those not familiar Nash was probably the most actively involved in making the NBA more cognizant of Green Initiatives. He worked with Phoenix brass to install solar panels on the roof of the arena and to add other initiatives via “Team Orange”to make the arena and facilities more environmentally friendly. He even worked  to create a shoe out of recycled materials. In many ways he became the face synonymous with NBA Green Week and in essence it’s defacto spokesman.

Tuesday (today) there is a press conference planned for a more formal announcement of his retirement and I’m guessing Nash will somehow use the opportunity to shed light on his favorite cause.
