Perhaps the reason not all the players have nicknames is it isn’t as popular now to hand out nicknames, or maybe the new generation tends to give them out only when you achieve a certain status.

Regardless of why more current players don’t have nicknames, I was left wondering if the Clutch City 94 & 95 Champs have the 5 best nicknames ever (all playing on the same team during same season).

The Challenge:

Looking at teams through history we can all compile a list of our favorite 5 nicknames. But, how many championship teams had 5 players who all had a great nickname? It sounds easy right? For example take the Championship Celtics of 2007-8; there are definitely 3 great monikers:

Then the choices run thin, Ray Ray isn’t that exciting and his other name Jesus Shuttleworth is really his characters name from “He Got Game“. Then there’s Tony Allen nicknamed “The Grindfather”, however that name really comes from his tenure with Memphis.

How about the Showtime Lakers? Again you get a couple of great nicknames:

And again you run out of choices to complete your 5 man nickname roster, at least ones that compare to the Clutch City roster.

So, I challenge you to compile a 5 man roster of nicknames from a championship team that beats our Clutch City roster.  Obviously personal preference plays a role in this, but it should be fun seeing if there is a championship team out there with better nicknames. I look forward to the submissions. Good luck.
