So, Greivis Vasquez has reportedly said that the Houston Rockets were interested in acquiring him but what do the Rockets fans think? Personally, as long as they’re attracted to the idea of him being a backup, I’m not completely opposed to it. Vasquez is one of the average point guards to come off the bench. Last year, he averaged 9.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.6 rebs while playing all 82 regular season games. His game does not revolve around his speed but more-so his IQ and jumper. He’s not very deceptive and he’s not quick. He’s simply your standard guard but he plays hard.

As backup in Houston, he’d basically adopt the same role Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni had. His responsibilities would entail making open threes, setting up the offense and containing his counterpart. He’s capable of being an offensive threat but defensively, he almost poses the same problems as Terry and Prigs. I’m not sure ANYONE wants to relive that catastrophe.

So now when you look at the finances, it’s actually in favor of bringing Terry back. Terry made $5.4 million last year but even he knows that’s the last time he’ll make that much money in Houston. Assuming he’s receptive to signing for a veteran minimum ($1.4 million), that may be the better bargain deal versus picking up Vasquez’s $6.6 million through next year.

Vasquez is younger (28) so he’s more valuable in terms of durability and spurts of maximum effort but is it really worth it? Terry shot better from the field and three-point land (regular season and postseason). Unless there’s an untapped potential that everyone else sees that I don’t, maybe resigning Terry isn’t such a bad option in comparison with trading for Vasquez. I’m torn in between the two. I’ve caught Terry making mental mistakes while guarding Stephen Curry that convinced me that he was done but I’m not sure if Vasquez is the answer. We’re not even going to even entertain the idea that Houston is interested in him starting at point guard. So, what do you guys think? Bring Terry back, trade for Vasquez or look elsewhere?
