“With the 32nd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets select Montrezl Harrell.”
I didn’t think it would take this long for the NBA to call upon the services of Harrell.
He was pegged to be a first-round draft pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, but somehow, he slipped down into the second-round to the Houston Rockets.
Many analysts including myself compared the freak athlete to the likes of current NBA player, Kenneth Faried.
Any time you get compared to someone named “The Manimal,” chances are it’s a compliment.
Harrell is compared to the the Denver Nuggets player because of his high motor/energy and his willingness to hustle with a blue-collar mentality.
Here’s a clip of Harrell in his days with the Louisville Cardinals.
As you can see, he can do a little bit of everything.
His upside is his strength, energy and versatility.
Another upside is the fact that while he stands six-foot eight inches tall, he boasts a seven-foot four inch wingspan.
Downside? It’s hard to see any downside with him. He works hard, and he brings the versatility of being able to guard the perimeter and the paint.
I had him going to my hometown Toronto Raptors in my mock draft, but I’m glad this young man will get a chance to contribute to a team that’s ready to contend for a championship right now.
When you couple his versatility with his work-ethic, it’s hard to imagine him not getting better.
Welcome to Clutch City Montrezl.
