SIGNED:  Brook Lopez3 years $60M, Thaddeus Young 4 years $50M both with player options in the final year and there is supposition there will be some sort of contract caveats in Lopez’ contract to do with injury given his history of injury issues.

The Nets also picked up Knicks point guard Shane Larkin who was one of the more effective players for New York this past season on a relatively inexpensive contract. This move makes me wonder if the Nets will try to package Jarrett Jack, a coveted veteran point guard in a trade to add more youth.

In another signing the Nets picked up Thomas Robinson from the Sixers who joins his 5th team in 3 years though there is reason to believe if he ever found the right spot he could be a solid contributor.

UNDETERMINED: Mirza Teletovic, Jerome Jordan

WAIVED: Darius Morris

NEXT: If there is some way the Nets could off load Deron Williams or Joe Johnson’s contract that would be ideal as the two represent close to $46 million dollars this coming season. While Johnson is still a contributor Williams has arguably been a bust in his 3 seasons in Brooklyn. Considering the salary cap is projected to be $67 million this season these two players are eating up 68% of that cap!

The Nets did do what mattered most by signing Lopez and Young who injected some speed and athleticism immediately upon joining the Nets. They’ll need to add more youth and it’s unlikely they can get rid of those albatross salaries especially considering Williams has another season of $22 plus million and the option is his. Conversely this is the last season of Johnson’s contract so come the trade deadline a team might jump to take his salary so they’ll have it off the books come the pivotal summer of 2016 when the cap will increase and free agents like Kevin Durant become available.

For now the signing of Larkin and Robinson is a step in the right direction to add some youth.

Yahoo Sources: The Nets have agreements now: Thad Young (4 years, $50M) and Brook Lopez (3 years, $60M). Both deals w/ player option.
