NBA Free Agency Update – Southeast Division
SIGNED: Paul Millsap,– 3 year deal between $58 and $59 million with a player option in the 3rd year
LOST: DeMarre Carroll elected to sign with Toronto Raptors, Pero Antic is returning to Europe to play for Fenerbahce
TRADE: Get Tiago Splitter from San Antonio Spurs
UNDETERMINED: Elton Brand, John Jenkins
PITCHING: Hawks were said to be interested in Monta Ellis who elected to go with Indiana
With the loss of Carroll and Ellis selecting Indiana now the focus will be on reviewing the next level down of small forwards. Carroll brought a ton to the table with his perimeter defense and during the playoffs he was the Hawks most consistent performer. For the Hawks to retain Millsap was huge as losing both free agent starters would have really hurt them. Since they were able to add some size with Tim Hardaway Jr in the trade draft night and via Splitter they aren’t in bad shape, but they will definitely need a small forward unless they plan on playing Millsap there with Horford in his natural power forward role.
