Houston Rockets: Rookie Sam Dekker

Fox 26 Houston’s Mark Berman reported that the Houston Rockets first-round pick, Sam Dekker, has agreed to his first NBA deal. The Wisconsin forward is slated to make $8-million over the next 4 years according to Dekker’s agent Mark Bartelstein.

Agent Mark Bartelstein says Rockets & 1st-round pick Sam Dekker have verbal agreement on 4year deal, 2 years + 2option years worth $8million

The first two years of the contract will make him under $4-million while the last two years are optional. Dekker has already been working out with the team and has been added to the Rocket’s Summer League team that will compete in Vegas next week. Dekker was presented his Rockets uniform recently, he will be sporting #7 for Clutch City, while second-round pick Montrezl Harrell from Louisville will wear #35.

The internet blew up after Dekker was caught mowing his yard post-being drafted. The young star knows how to please his mother and also get the job done at any cost. In his three years in Madison at the University of Wisconsin, Dekker averaged 12.1 points and 5.0 rebounds to go along with his .493 shooting percentage from the field. Not to mention the Badgers were in the Final Four the last two seasons.

He won’t necessarily be fighting hard to nail down his spot, but Dekker will want to show what he’s got in the Summer League tourney. The word around Houston is that Dekker could be the second-coming of Chandler Parsons and that is yet to be proven without seeing him play in the system. Rockets fans wouldn’t be upset if Dekker was a replica of the now-Mavericks small forward, let’s just hope this time we can get the kid to stay in Houston a few more years.

First time you can catch Sam Dekker in action will be on July 10th at 9 PM against the D-League Select team in the Las Vegas Summer League tournament. Dekker is expected to start at small forward and get plenty of playing time to get comfortable with some of his new teammates.
