With the release of the 2015-2016 NBA schedule, the Houston Rockets will begin to circle dates on their calendar.

After falling short to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, the Rockets are eager for the start of a new season. Having high expectations after advancing deep into the playoffs in a ruthless Western Conference, the Rockets are finally able to survey the road that will hopefully take them further than the path they took last season.

The Rockets will open their season on Wednesday, October 28th, at home against the Denver Nuggets. With the two teams having swapped players this summer, former teammates of both squads will have to face one another early this season.

Rockets newly acquired guard Ty Lawson may or may not play against his former team in the opener depending on whether or not the league chooses to suspend him for his misconduct off the court.

Dwight Howard will definitely miss the Rockets’ season opener due to committing one too many flagrant fouls in last year’s postseason. Since the Rockets were eliminated before Howard could face his suspension in the playoffs, the center’s suspension will carry over to the upcoming season.

Rockets fans will rejoice to see that the schedule features a game they have long been waiting for– a Christmas day home game against the San Antonio Spurs. While the fact that the Rockets will face the Spurs on Christmas day is an added bonus, Rockets fans have patiently awaited a schedule in which they would have the opportunity to catch a game inside the Toyota Center during the Holiday.

Perhaps the most important thing about the new schedule, however, is that the league found a way to cut down back-to-backs, with each team averaging 1.5 less back-to-backs this season as opposed to last season, according to NBA.com.  Each NBA organization will benefit greatly from that improvement.
