Can Dwight Howard and James Harden Both Make U.S. Olympic Team?

Shooting Guards:

A) James Harden,  Klay Thompson

B) DeMar DeRozan,  Bradley Beal,  Jimmy Butler

C) Gordon Hayward,  Victor Oladipo

Looking at the shooting guards it was interesting to see how well DeMar DeRozan played at the Spain World Championships and offered intangibles like rebounding and assists. I suspect unless he improved his defensive ability dramatically though it would keep him off the team. With regard to Beal the team doesn’t need more scoring and his lack of experience  internationally will keep him off the squad.  I suspect if his game continues to grow along with his defense he’ll be on the next World and Olympic squads.

Of the shooting guards the player  likely to garner serious consideration will be Jimmy Butler, but my feeling is another player who has demonstrated the ability to defend copious positions (Leonard) will have a slight edge over Butler. Therefore I suspect just Harden and Thompson will be the only shooting guards to make the Olympic squad.
