Houston Rockets 2015 Media Day: Ty Lawson Discusses Fresh Start

Continuing the Houston Rockets 2015 Media Day, Ty Lawson took to the podium to discuss his new team, opportunity and what he expects.

Interview Highlights:

  • Houston has been showing him a lot of love and he’s happy to be in Houston
  • He expects to bring a lot of energy, push the pace and be a play maker
  • Lawson says he’ll play defense and many people don’t recognize he is also very good off the ball so looks forward to playing with James Harden
  • He believes he can be the extra roster piece that pushes them further
  • As per the off court situation he didn’t really elaborate other than to say the organization has noticed all the little things he does like coming to the gym every night.
  • He further says “anything I’ve needed, they’ve done for me, whether it was moral support or whatever he needed”
  • He looks forward to getting know players and finding out where they want the ball

  • Lawson said McHale’s two main rules are play hard and be on time.
  • Asked if he feels the Rockets are over looked he says yes and they’ll be putting teams on notice as soon as the season starts.
  • A player he pin pointed was Corey Brewer (who he played with in Denver) and is very happy to be reunited with him

  • Lawson says this is his chance to prove himself and his career by winning a championship
  • He says he definitely has a different mind set and “doesn’t want to let any of his teammates down”
  • Lawson says he is ready to compete for the starting point guard position and feels Patrick Beverley will make him a better all round player since he is a preeminent defensive guard.
