Must be pretty tough sitting on the bench cheering for your team while they get pounded and ponder if you were playing maybe things could be different. That’s likely what went through Donatas Motiejunas’ head when the Rockets got eliminated in 5 games to the Warriors. However painful that was, the Lithuanian’s season was a breakthrough and could be considered a success in almost every other account.
Playing most of the year as a starter, either as a center or a power forward, Motiejunas made the most out of the unfortunate injuries of his teammates Howard and Jones and was able to showcase his abilities at a level we have not seen before. Which made us wonder: how far can he go?
In the midst of receiving some votes (7) as the Most Improved Player of the Year, Donatas managed to win many Houston fans as well as in the NBA. For the first time many of them got to understand and trust his talents. All that creates a huge sense of curiosity surrounding the big man this year. Will he perform up to last year’s standards? Can he grow into a top tier player? Is he the ultimate piece that might take the Rockets to the title?
Whilst D-Mo’s skills blew us away it’s time to take a step back: explore and scrutinize his developments, see if there’s room for growth and what we can expect from him in the future. So stick around and follow us while we trace Motiejunas’ journey.
