Q17: Who gets traded first?
Andre: Supposing Montrezl Harrell develops faster than expected, one Power Forward will be in excess. Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas both have expiring contracts next season, so it will come down to one of those guys. If I were to bet, I’d say Terrence Jones.
Anthony: If T-Jones doesn’t pick it up defensively than him. If McDaniels doesn’t get the playing time he should get than it’s him. So pick your poison McHale.
Coty: With the changes that have been made to the roster, I think Donatas Motiejunas will be the first player to get traded. I do not see DeMo playing valuable minutes for the Rockets this season. Other than sitting on the bench, I think the Rockets can get some good assets in a trade for DeMo.
Eric: If Terrence Jones isn’t signed to an extension by the October 31st deadline, I believe he will be traded for either a veteran that can contribute to a title run or some draft picks. I think the Rockets are planning to give Motiejunas the extension and embrace him as the power forward of the future.
John: With Harden, Howard and Lawson all safe without question. I’d have to say someone like Rookie Sam Dekker and a guy like Jones or Motiejunas if one of them is clearly out preforming the other and we just don’t have the minutes for the other. I never can tell what Morey is thinking when it comes to player movement. It will all depend on who’s available.
Joshua: Terrence Jones. Him and Motiejunas are both free agents next summer, so it is likely one of them will get traded since the Rockets wont be able to afford them both. With Motiejunas being the better player, I see Jones being shipped out.
Trey: Capela or Jones will be the first to go, potential that may need a new home.
Tamberlyn: Last year it was easier knowing Houston needed help up front and on the wing (Smith/Brewer), this year the Rockets are loaded, so much will depend on chemistry and development. Entering their fourth season Motiejunas and Jones both offer solid reasons to sign them to long term deals but with Harrell it appears Jones is the more dispensable given how well DeMo fits the Rockets schemes. I’ll be surprised if there is any activity early this season, but Morey could shock everyone and trade a bunch of players (Jones, Dekker and Thornton for example) if the right player becomes available at the deadline!
