As the Houston Rockets approach the start of the 2015-2016 NBA season, the organization hopes that they can avoid the injury bug they fell victim to last season. Throughout their 82-game schedule, and into the playoffs, the Rockets faced an uphill battle against injuries to key players.
Though he was healthy during the postseason, the Rockets most substantial injury came to superstar center Dwight Howard, who missed half of last season. Vowing to be a better team on defense at the start of last season, the Rockets found it difficult to do so after Howard’s injury.
With Howard having to start the season on the bench (he faces a single-game suspension for exceeding the postseason technical foul limit), the Rockets are counting on second-year center Clint Capela to pick up the slack. Having only played a minimal amount of minutes during last year’s regular season, Capela demonstrated his potential during the Rockets 2015 playoff run, after being called upon to play valuable minutes behind Howard.
Entering his second season, the Rockets will look to Capela to improve upon his postseason success by scoring close to the basket, blocking shots, and grabbing boards. If Dwight Howard should miss any of the season due to injury, the Rockets are banking on Capela being a solid candidate to fill the superstar’s shoes.
