An odd game given the Heat had all their starters dressed, but the Houston Rockets starters were much more successful than Miami’s outscoring them 69 to 52. In the end it was the depth of Miami’s bench who won the game for the Heat playing against a depleted front line which used Joshua Smith and other youngsters vying for the 15th roster spot to fill the center position.

What seemed like a potential Houston Rockets possum game play versus the Warriors on Thursday turns out to be truth as Dwight Howard again wasn’t in the line-up once more listed as having lower back stiffness.

Injury has struck the centre postion as joining Howard on sidelines was Clint Capela who is nursing shoulder stiffness and Donatas Motiejunas remains out of action while he rehabs (though progressing) from his spring back surgery.

While the Rockets were the better team through three and a half quarters both teams sat their starters (except Hassan Whiteside) for the entire fourth quarter and as has been the norm through preseason the Rockets succumbed to their opponent in the final frame.

There were indications GM Daryl Morey is looking to add another front court player  based on who saw the court and a new face appearing tonight. But, first let’s go through the game highlights and observations:
