Houston Rockets Duo Dominate Lakers – Player Grades

By Andre Cantalogo

The Houston Rockets hosted the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant this Saturday night for the first time this season. While there’s still three games ahead between both teams, this could’ve been the last time we saw the Black Mamba at Clutch City as we can’t be certain of whether he’ll remain healthy for his final trip to Houston April 10th.

The game also featured the always entertaining clash between former teammates Kobe Bryant and  (according to Kobe) “Soft” Dwight Howard as well as Trevor Ariza’s return to the Rockets lineup.

In the end, despite a valiant effort from Bryant, it just wasn’t enough as the Rockets one-two punch were on fire and Harden and Howard completely took over the game and the Rockets held a healthy lead that ranged from 10 to 20 points throughout the entire game.

It’s always a relief to have Trevor Ariza in the starting lineup. Mainly for defensive concerns, but Ariza impacts the game in many different ways every night. Tonight he didn’t have any points until the third quarter but he was the one responsible for guarding Kobe Bryant and contributed everywhere else as his stats shows: 5 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals for Ariza.  . B-. The big man from Switzerland had a quiet game today. I noticed he played his best when Ty Lawson was on the court feeding him in the paint. Even though it wasn’t a great performance from <a href=. PF. Houston Rockets. CLINT CAPELA

C. Houston Rockets. DWIGHT HOWARD. B+. In contrast to his past few games tonight <a href=

SG. Houston Rockets. JAMES HARDEN. A. Great game from the Beard. He picked his shots beautifully from the three-point line, slashing by Lakers defenders for easy layups. Aggressive all the way through <a href=

Timid game from <a href=. PG. Houston Rockets. PATRICK BEVERLEY. C

Best Opponent:

A. It’s just a pleasure to watch Kobe Bryant’s last hurrah.  Crowds cheer for him everywhere he goes and it seems he saved the best for Houston. Undoubtedly his aggressiveness isn’t the same from years ago as Kobe relies more on perimeter shots and free-throws now.  That didn’t matter tonight as he was hot from the field and had a throw-back game ending up with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.. SG. Los Angeles Lakers. KOBE BRYANT
