At the end of the D-League game vs. Bakersfield Jam, Montrezl Harrell got into a physical fight with Derek Cooke, an undrafted big man out of Wyoming. Cooke initiated the confrontation when he shoved Harrell. When an official stepped in, the Houston Rockets’ second round pick pushed him, which resulted in the official falling on his back.

Lee Seham, the National Basketball Referees Association general counsel announced the NBRA’s official take on the matter as:

". “After carefully reviewing videotape and related evidence concerning this incident, we have reached the inescapable conclusion that Harrell committed a deliberate assault and battery against Referee Goldenberg. Anything less than a multiple game suspension would constitute a green light for violence against officials”"

While the NBRA might not be able to suspend Montrezl Harrell when it comes to NBA games, the NBA surely would have to take matters into their own hand, probably siding with the NBRA. Harrell might have to face a heavy multi-games suspension in the future.

Not that the Rockets would be devastated by this since Harrell is currently not in the team’s immediate plan. Given the quantity of power forward available to play that position, the Rockets will survive this news.
