It’s the end of the season, as we know it, and no one feels fine.

The Houston Rockets have mismanaged themselves into being one of the most disappointing, frustrating, embarrassing, confusing, and vine-viral teams in the NBA. I’m not sure a team, in one season, has fallen from a division banner and a conference finals showcase to missing the playoffs. As this season rounds the toilet bowl, there is really only one place to go from here: the drawing board.

“Blow it up.” That’s what needs to happen. And it’s easy for fans like us to say that. I’m sure the pieces will fly this offseason in some way, shape, or form. It’s difficult to blow up the team and still be relevant the next season. Impossible? No. The Portland Trail Blazers are a vastly different team from last year, with Damian Lillard being the only starter from last year’s squad still suiting up for Rip City. We need a real coach. We need real defense. Look to Portland. It can be done.

Morey and company have their work cut out for them. I’m guessing 50% of the team won’t be back, either by trade or letting them walk: Dwight Howard, Corey Brewer, Terrence Jones, D-Mo, Jason Terry, Patrick Beverley, and maybe even Trevor ArizaCoach Bickerstaff won’t be holding the dry erase board anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if every assistant coach is told to pack their things and go. And if I’m Daryl Morey, I’d open up my LinkedIn account just in case.
