The Houston Rockets are no longer considering Jeff Van Gundy for the head coach position.
After numerous reports that he was the front runner, Jeff Van Gundy is no longer in consideration for the Houston Rockets head coaching vacancy, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Having coached the Rockets from 2003-2007, it has been said that while Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was in favor of Van Gundy making a return, ownership was not sold on the idea.
As of now, it seems that the front runner for the position is Mike D’Antoni, one of the pioneers of the fast-paced offense that most of the league is transitioning to.
While there is no doubt that the Rockets offense would improve under D’Antoni, it is defense that the Rockets struggle with.
Sources: Jeff Van Gundy is no longer a candidate for the Rockets job. Though JVG had interest in reunion, two sides never sat down to talk.

If D’Antoni lands the job, look for Rockets management to be particular about who D’Antoni chooses as his assistant coaching staff.
