Houston Rockets Patrick Beverley and Trevor Ariza receive votes for NBA Defensive teams.

Houston Rockets starters Trevor Ariza and Patrick Beverley received votes for NBA Defensive team honors, despite neither player securing the nomination.

Beverley received eleven total points, while Ariza received three. Unfortunately, Rockets center Dwight Howard received zero votes.

In a season in which Howard’s role on offense significantly diminished, one would think Howard would try to make up for it with his defense. Be it because of age or disinterest, Howard’s defense declined with his offense.

Howard’s defensive descent had a serious impact on the Rocket’ success. Without an exceptional defensive anchor, the Rockets went from ranking as the sixth best team in terms of defensive efficiency during the 2014-15 NBA season, to the twentieth best team during the 2015-16 NBA season.

The Rockets will look to upgrade defensively this summer by acquiring new talent and adding a coaching staff that is more defensive minded.
