Though the NBA isn’t often in the headlines for violence news that Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones had been shot and killed shook the Association.

Dejean-Jones is a shooting guard played in 14 games for the New Orleans Pelicans this past season where he started in 11 games. His stats for the season were 5.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assist in 19.9 minutes. In late February he suffered a broken wrist which ended his season, however he was determined to return to the line-up following rehab.

The incident which occurred early Saturday morning could be described as a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dejean-Jones was in Dallas for his daughters birthday and had gone for a walk as per NBA.com. When he returned he inadvertently went to the third floor instead of the fourth floor where his girlfriend lived.

Reports say Dejean-Jones began to kick at the door (presumably wondering why he had been locked out). The startled resident who was awoken from his sleep grabbed his handgun and fired shooting Dejean-Jones in the passage way and he later died at the hospital.

As news leaked out of the incident, players, teams and fans were shocked by the tragic incident and Dejean-Jones senseless death.
