NBA 2K18 All-Time Houston Rockets team predictions

Who will make the All-Time Rockets team in NBA 2K18?

In NBA 2K18, all 30 teams in the league will have a roster featuring the best players to ever play for each franchise. There were 47 classic teams in NBA 2K17, including the 1993-94 and 2007-08 Houston Rockets.

2K Sports also announced that there are 16 additional classic teams in NBA 2K18, but they didn’t provide any further details.

Each All-Time team will have 12 players, and NBA 2K gamers will have plenty of fun pitting one franchise against another. The All-Time Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are sure to be fan favorites.

The Rockets have featured many superstar players throughout its rich history, but unfortunately everyone can’t make the cut. In light of that, I thought it would be interesting to predict the players that will make the Rockets All-Time team in NBA 2K18. Lets get into it!

Calvin Murphy

Calvin Murphy was picked 18th overall by the San Diego Rockets in the 1970 NBA Draft. He averaged 15.8 points and 4.0 assists during his rookie season, before the Rockets moved to Houston in 1971. Murphy leads the Rockets franchise in assists and is second in points scored. He played his entire career in Houston and boasted a career average of 17.9 points and 4.4 assists.

Kenny Smith

Kenny Smith played in Houston from 1990 to 1996. He was the starting point guard in 1994 and 1995 when the Rockets won back-to-back titles. Smith averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 assists on a blistering 40.2 percent from downtown during his Rockets career. He was very quick and athletic, earning him the Kenny “The Jet” Smith moniker.

Clyde Drexler

Clyde Drexler was traded to Houston in 1994 and retired as a Rocket in 1998. He won his first and only championship in 1995 against the Orlando Magic. Clyde averaged 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists during his tenure in Houston. Despite playing only three full seasons as a Rocket, his ability to impact the game in multiple ways makes Clyde “The Glide” Drexler one of the best Rockets players of all-time.

Tracy McGrady

Tracy McGrady played for the Rockets from 2004 to 2009. Although injuries derailed McGrady’s career, the 7x All-Star still managed to put up great numbers. He averaged 21.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists during his time in H-Town. The signature moment of T-Mac’s career came on a chilly December night in 2004, when McGrady scored 13 points in 35 seconds to help the Rockets beat the San Antonio Spurs. It was perhaps the greatest comeback in NBA history.

James Harden

James Harden became a superstar when the Oklahoma City Thunder dealt him to Houston in 2012. He’s made five All-Star and four All-NBA teams in that time. If we had our way, Harden would’ve won the MVP Award in 2015 and 2017. Either way, The Beard could retire as a top 2 Rocket if he can bring a title to Houston.

Rudy Tomjanovich

Like Calvin Murphy, Rudy Tomjanovich played his rookie season as a San Diego Rocket in 1970-71. He also played out his entire 11-year career as a Rocket, where he averaged 17.4 points and 8.1 rebounds. After retiring in 1981, Tomjanovich coached the Rockets during their two championship runs in the mid-90’s.

Elvin Hayes

The great Elvin Hayes was the first overall pick by the San Diego Rockets in 1968. He spent his first four years playing for the Rockets until he was traded to the Baltimore Bullets, only to return to the Houston Rockets in 1981 before retiring in Houston in 1984. He averaged 20.5 points and 12.2 rebounds in seven seasons with the Rockets. The always reliable Elvin Hayes only missed 2 out of 574 games as a Rocket. How’s that for consistency?

Otis Thorpe

Otis Thorpe spent six years in Houston between 1988 and 1994. He averaged 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game on 56 percent shooting from the floor. He was an elite post scorer and he won his first and only championship in 1994 with the Rockets.

Yao Ming

Yao Ming was selected No.1 overall by the Rockets in the 2002 Draft. The 7’6″, 310 pound gentle giant averaged 19.0 points and 9.2 rebounds in his injury laden, nine-year career. Perhaps, his biggest accomplishment was further exposing basketball to the country of China. Many of the Chinese Basketball Association’s current players grew up watching Yao play in Houston. He brought an international audience to the NBA that we would’ve never reached on our own, and for that we will be forever indebted to him.

Ralph Sampson

The Rockets selected Ralph Sampson No. 1 overall in the 1983 Draft. He was very thin, weighing in at only 228 pounds despite being 7’4″ tall. Sampson averaged 18.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in his four-plus years in Houston. He played in the NBA for just nine seasons but was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012.

Moses Malone

Moses Malone played for the Rockets from 1976-1982. In Houston, he averaged 23.7 points and 15.0 rebounds per game. He made 13 All-Star appearances and won a Finals MVP as a Philadelphia 76er. The Hall of Fame inducted Malone in 2001.

Hakeem Olajuwon

I saved the best for last. Hakeem Olajuwon was the No. 1 overall pick back in the 1984 Draft. He spent 17 of his 18 seasons in Houston where he averaged 22.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. He was the centerpiece of the Rockets two titles and is considered the best player in franchise history. Hakeem had the type of Hall of Fame career that others could only Dream of.
