There is a report saying that Dwight Howard considered retirement after the 2014-15 season. How would that have affected the Rockets?

After the end of an injury-filled year for Dwight Howard in 2015, he considered retiring according to Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated. That season was one that saw Dwight only appear in 41 regular season games. For the playoffs, though, he was healthy and performed well. Unfortunately for Houston, they were eliminated in 5 games by the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Apparently, Dwight Howard’s love for the game was diminishing throughout the year.

The next season for the Rockets was quite bad, to say the least. Dwight Howard and James Harden did not get along, and that led to a mediocre 41-41 season after coming into the year with high hopes. By the end of it all, the Rockets decided to move on from Dwight and build completely around Harden.

What would have happened if Dwight Howard retired after the Conference Finals run? Would that disaster of a season for Houston have not happened? There is no way to know for sure, obviously, but we can sure take a few guesses on some things and make a few theories. Let’s do just that.
